Thanks alot, you are awesome!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24912646.post-1164071088578017232006-11-20T20:04:00.000-05:002006-11-20T20:04:00.000-05:00Did you take a picture of the soup???Did you take a picture of the soup???Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06106228723776481159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24912646.post-1164041657394304132006-11-20T11:54:00.000-05:002006-11-20T11:54:00.000-05:00Hi Anonymous,Dinner for 16-20 would be quite the c...Hi Anonymous,

Dinner for 16-20 would be quite the challenge, eh?

I think for a group that size, I would offer 3 choices….and I would make them all one-dish wonders.

I would be tempted to make something like a chicken pot pie (I would double the low-fat recipe from Looneyspoons – serves 8 then), something like shrimp/tofu pad thai (again, doubling a recipe so it serves 8) and then something like a vegetarian manicotti or lasagna.

In addition, I’d probably have a couple of salad choices (perhaps caesar and spinach salad), one or two soups, and then buy a big cake for dessert (or make a massive bowl of trifle or something).

Let me think…..(burner budgeting time!)
You could have chicken pot pie and lasagna in the oven at the same time.
You could have 2 burners for soup, one for pad thai.
Leaving your fridge space for salads and dessert.

But it really depends on your crowd. You could also pick a theme (Indian is fabulous because the meals stand up well to long periods of time, and because the meat is stewed, you don’t have to use expensive cuts), or make a pasta bar, or a stir fry bar…..

I would very much avoid fussy, last-minute kinds of meals. Things like chicken marsala are impossible to make for a crowd, because you just don’t have the room on the stove to cook it all!

Another fun thing could be to set up little food stations – I’ve seen things like a baked potato bar, or a little smorbrod bar (danish open faced sandwiches). Too much fun!leslie @ definitely not marthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01737456208934610628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24912646.post-1164026489688995302006-11-20T07:41:00.000-05:002006-11-20T07:41:00.000-05:00Sounds like it was delicious! In our house, if I cook, hubs washes, so I try to do most of the cooking! :) I hate doing dishes.

-torieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24912646.post-1163984102089272882006-11-19T19:55:00.000-05:002006-11-19T19:55:00.000-05:00Leslie, your dinner looked beautiful, I think I m...Leslie, your dinner looked beautiful, I think I may try to make your apps for a dinner party I am hosting in the near future. I have to agree about the formal dinner comment. People love to come, but sometimes my hubby and I are little p*ssed that no one else likes to hold them, or if they do, its tacky potluck. Its true that it is such a ton of work, and not inexpensive to hold, but its so much fun when it comes together well. You should consider a catering buisness, or write a book about hosting parties, your flare for writing and cooking would make it a bestseller! P.S. I am having a larger dinner party (16-20 guests), which will not be sit down, but buffet style, any suggestions on what to make (on the less expensive side)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
